6) Open question

Okay, so if a cat's "hands" are called paws and their "fingernails" are called claws, what are their "fingers" called? This problem started bothering me last week, after Jon was kind enough to trim Mr. Lady's gargantuan Howard Hughes nails. So I started asking around and got a few answers. For instance, Rebecca said talons and Julio said digits. Feh.

I wanted to let it rest, I really tried. When Julio said digits, I got all excited and acted like the problem was solved. But still, I don't feel quite satisfied. Maybe the word I'm looking for doesn't exist, but it should. Can you guys help me make something up? Cheers.

See I would originally have said toes, but my sister and her husband have a new kitten...and it has a thumb. Yep that's right, a thumb. When I asked them about it, they said Bob (that's the cat) has 6 toes. Maybe it is toes and anything extra is called a thumb...

the extras are called "dew claws", i think. the puppies all had between 4 and 7 "toes". it was odd.

yeah, i think i call them toes.

Humans have arms, hands and fingers, legs, feet, and toes.
our 4 *legged* friends have legs, paws, and toes?
It has to be toes.

I would've tried wikipedia, but I wanted to give y'all a chance.

Looks like the toes have it, although I put pawngers at a very close second.
