Sawzall Intermezzo
It has recently come to my attention that Beth Mullin is not content to be Googled by the nameless masses. She let it be known that more people should be looking at her face. Luckily she got into almost every picture taken at her birthday party this weekend. Shall we? This was the establishment chosen for Beth's Big Night, a beautiful Irish bar in the middle of an otherwise empty, soulless part of downtown. Beth and I discovered Mr. Dooley's one strange Sunday evening in the rain. We had spent 20 or 30 minutes wandering around, looking for a single open bar (in downtown Boston!) Then Dooley's appeared out of nowhere, a welcome beacon to the Weary Traveler. Inside was a strange mix of hipsters, tourists, businesspeople, families and a few (paid?) Irishmen for flavor.
They have a bunch of aged whiskeys and live Irish music and a cozy, convivial feel. Even sailors go there, I've seen it. I don't blame them. If I were on shore leave, I would head to Dooley's. Okay, I'm totally smitten with a bar. That's not a girl. That's a girl though! A birthday girl! And her manfriend Nate! In this photo Nate is playing stage mom, wanting his best girl to smile big for all the nice people.
Uh-oh, looks like Nate decided to be naughty for this photo! He is an architect who wants to build bridges. I think. Maybe he wants to dance in a classical ballet troupe. I should ask him.
Also in the photo, are Ben and Skye. This is the first time Ben has ever seen a camera so naturally he is a bit leery. I'm not sure if you can tell, but this is not the first time Skye has seen a camera. (Bonus: Far right, Ari's radiant smile) "Did you say I have a radiant smile, Jesse? That is so rude! My manfriend Justin will beat you within an inch of your life!"
Speaking of Justin, here he is sharing a candid moment of laughter with his old friend Beth and his new friend Laura! Beth knows her way around the posing end of a camera, if you catch my drift. Look at Laura in red. She's so nice.
