Model Citizens

Yesterday I got a bug in my ear about smart supermodels. It started when I mentioned that action hunk Dolph Lundgren has a Master's degree in chemical engineering. All of a sudden I remembered learning once that some famous supermodel or actress isn't as dumb as she seems. This celeb actually has a Master's degree or maybe a PhD. Unfortunately I couldn't remember who it was.

All day I solicited help from friends and co-workers and got angry when people made jokes. Examples of unhelpful wisecracks: Nicole suggested I Google "smart" and "hot." A co-worker suggested Heidi Klum has a PhD in hotness. I did not appreciate these smart answers. If you're not going to help, then hush up. That's always been my philosophy.

However, there were several good answers provided. Sharon Stone, Mira Sorvino and Natalie Portman were suggested by multiple sources; turns out these dames've gots brains. Unfortunately none of these actresses were correct because they did not go to graduate school.

The right answer? Cindy Crawford. While she did not complete her education, she received a full scholarship in chemical engineering at Northwestern University. Midway into her studies, she heeded the call of hotness and became a vapid model. See Correction

Marissa and Rhiannon will split the prize for the correct answer. They both get hot dates with Dolph Lundgren. Honorable mention goes to Aprildawn, who came out of left field to suggest it was old movie actress Gene Tierney (pictured above.) Obscure answer, but hubba hubba.

Correction
: Cindy Crawford is wrong. Aprildawn wins by default.

Jesse: this doesn't add up, although Cindy is certifiably hot. I thought you said this person has a graduate degree. Cindy C. didn't even finish her bachelor's.

Listen Sue, just because you're between jobs doesn't mean you need to spend all your time bursting my bubble.

Turns out you are right. I was told it was Northwestern's grad school. I did not do my research. Alas. Now I will go nuts again.

Hedy Lamarr held a patent on technology which is the foundation for today's advanced wireless networks. Lamarr's had an idea for frequency hopping: switching from frequency to frequency in split-second intervals. Lamarr's idea, combined with a friend's idea of a device allowing the frequency to be synchronized, created technology that was used to effectively in World War II and has led to today's wireless networks.
She also starred in nudie movies and simulated sex scenes (very risque for the 30's).
